1. Default location of PFILE and SPFILE in UNIX and WINDOWS are?
For UNIX : $ORACLE_HOME/dbs or /d02/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome/dbs
For WINDOWS : %ORACLE_HOME\database or c:\app\oracle\product\11.2.0\dbhome\database
SQL> show parameter spfile
NAME TYPE VALUE
--------- ----------- ------------------------------
spfile string /d01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/dbs/spfileorcl.ora
2. Check database started whether with PFILE or SPFILE?
SQL> SELECT DECODE(value, NULL, 'PFILE', 'SPFILE') "Init File Type"
FROM sys.v_$parameter
WHERE name = 'spfile';
3. Create PFILE or SPFILE from PFILE or SPFILE or MEMORY?
i. Using SPFILE (start database using spfile)
SQL> CREATE pfile FROM spfile;
or
SQL> CREATE pfile='/backup/pfile/init[SID].ora' FROM spfile;
ii. Using PFILE (start database using pfile)
SQL> CREATE spfile FROM pfile;
SQL> CREATE spfile FROM pfile='/backup/pfile/init[SID].ora';
iii. Using MEMORY
SQL> CREATE SPFILE FROM MEMORY;
iv. Using alert_[ORACLE_SID].log
